Leeds United’s new signing Eunan O’Kane has told LUTV that he first heard of the club’s interest around three or four weeks ago having completed a late move to Elland Road.

As the transfer window drew to a close just over a week ago, Leeds made a move to bring in one new signing before the deadline in midfielder O’Kane.

The 26-year-old had been an important member of Eddie Howe’s first-team during their rise from League One to the Premier League, and made 13 appearances in the top flight last season.

A Republic of Ireland international, O’Kane racked up more than 100 appearances for Bournemouth following a 2012 move from Torquay United, and will now hope to enjoy similar success with his new side Leeds.

O’Kane was asked about his move to West Yorkshire earlier this week having linked up with his new team-mates, and discussed just how long it took to get his deal done.

Speaking to LUTV, O’Kane stated that Leeds first showed an interest in signing him up to four weeks ago, and didn’t really understand why clubs always leave it so late to secure transfers, as his move went through just hours before the transfer deadline.

O’Kane added that whilst it took a while to sort the deal out, he’s just delighted that he’s now a Leeds player and can get started at Elland Road.

“Maybe three weeks ago, three or four weeks ago,” said O’Kane. “It’s been a long time in the process, why clubs leave it so late I don’t know – to get the best deal maybe! It’s been a while, I’m glad to be here and I’m glad that they got it over the line,” he added.
