Eunan O’Kane responds when asked if he expects Leeds to sign another striker

Leeds United have made a very bright start to the new Championship season.

Eunan O’Kane has suggested to BBC Radio Leeds that he feels that Leeds could still do with signing another striker, and added that while he does not know anything for sure, he would expect the Whites hierarchy to be looking to bolster their options up front during the final days of the window.

It has been an extremely busy summer at Elland Road and Thomas Christiansen’s men have made an extremely bright start to the new campaign – sitting third in the table and proving to be one of the two teams remaining in the Championship yet to lose a game.

But one of the most notable deals involving Leeds this summer was the £15 million move last term’s top goalscorer Chris Wood made to Burnley (via BBC Sport).

While Jay-Roy Grot has since been signed – and Caleb Ekuban arrived earlier in the summer – and Kemar Roofe has enjoyed a brilliant week in the striker role – scoring four times, including the opener in the weekend win over Nottingham Forest – O’Kane suggested that it would be wise for the club to look to add more fire-power to their ranks in the coming days.

“I think so,” he told BBC Radio Leeds when asked whether he would like to see another striker join the club.

“I know Roofey’s done well this week but I think we only really have two recognised strikers and one of them is injured so I would expect the club to be looking at possibly one more.

“I have no idea if that’s the case or not but from my own point of view, I would think that we would be expecting another one to come in.”

While things are certainly going well for Leeds currently, they will be aware how the hectic schedule of the Championship can expose any areas of the squad that are weaker in terms of depth.

Not significantly strengthening the squad in January last season appeared to hurt their chances of capitalising on the promise they showed as they ran out of steam and fell out of the promotion picture at the crucial period of the campaign.

So while signing another striker may not appear essential right now with things going so well, it would surely be a greater gamble for the club to let the window close without providing further competition in that area of the field, as O’Kane suggests.
