Eunan O’Kane has suffered a recurrence of the injury which saw him miss two months for Leeds United last season.
According to The Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United midfielder Eunan O’Kane has been forced to pull out of the Republic of Ireland squad with a groin injury.
The Leeds ace has been in fine form so far this season and has played every minute of the Whites’ five Championship games – three wins, two draws.
Overall, the 27-year-old, who missed two months of last season with the same injury and ultimately fell out of favour under Garry Monk, looks a man reborn since Thomas Christiansen has come in and fans of the Elland Road will hope it’s a short-term thing.
Leeds, who sit third in the Championship, host Burton Albion in two week’s time as the domestic game in England’s top two divisions is halted due to the international break.
Fortunately for Leeds, Christiansen has Ronaldo Vieira and Mateusz Klich as probable replacements, having sold Liam Bridcutt earlier this month, but it remains to be seen whether the pair – neither of whom have started a Championship game this season – are ready to step in for the Irishman if needed.
United’s promotion prospects look a lot brighter than they did at the same point last year and Christiansen will be desperate to see his linchpin shake off his latest setback for the sake of continuity.
