With Liam Bridcutt suspended for tonight’s match against Bristol City, Leeds United midfielder Eunan O’Kane looks certain to step into the space left by the skipper’s absence, and it is the perfect chance for him to prove the doubters wrong at Elland Road.

Too often this season, some Leeds fans have been quick to criticise the decision to pick O’Kane ahead of teenager Ronaldo Vieira, claiming that the former is third-choice at best.

However, the summer signing has performed admirably this season and his presence should not be understated.

Even if there is no doubting Vieira’s innate talent and potential to become a Leeds great, he is still young and needs time to develop his game rather than being relied on week in, week out.

If anything, Bridcutt is the player who has been underperforming in recent weeks and this evening O’Kane has the chance to prove he should be starting alongside Vieira even when Monk has a full roster of central midfielders to call on.

It is easy to jump on a manager’s decisions without thinking of the bigger picture, and tonight O’Kane has another opportunity to shine.

He may not be the big-name player or the academy crown jewel, but he is an effective option and Leeds are lucky to have him.
