Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, Eunan O’Kane has singled out Leeds United team-mate Kemar Roofe for praise following his match-winning goal on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old scored a second-half winner as Leeds came from a goal down to win 2-1 at Burton Albion on Boxing Day and establish a four-point cushion in the top six.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s absence through injury hasn’t been anywhere near as detrimental as first feared because of Roofe, who has replaced him up front and netted four goals in his last four games for the West Yorkshire side.

The former Oxford United man, a £3 million signing under Garry Monk, has long proclaimed that his best position is up front, despite playing on the wing for large spells of his Leeds career.

But O’Kane says that the proof is pretty much in the pudding now.

He told BBC Radio Leeds: “I agree. In the middle of the pitch he’s obviously a lot closer to goal. When you get him in the middle of the pitch he’s proven that he has the quality to score goals.

“I can only compliment him because he was out of the team before he got his chance. Credit to him.”

Roofe is certainly proving his mettle as a number nine and two hat-tricks this season – including one at QPR earlier this month – is pretty conclusive evidence that he is a natural goalscorer and Thomas Christiansen should ensure that he stays there.
