Leeds United suffered a gut-wrenching defeat on Saturday.

Eunan O’Kane has suggested to LUTV that Leeds United fans applauding the team after Saturday’s heartbreaking defeat by Millwall proves that they value effort above all else.
United were trailing 2-0 at the break after goals from Aiden O’Brien and Lee Gregory, either side of Liam Cooper’s red card on 37 minutes, gave Thomas Christiansen’s side a huge mountain to climb during the second half.
But Leeds summoned a great deal of character and goals from Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Kemar Roofe saw them restore parity at Elland Road, before Lasogga struck again to put the Whites within touching distance of the most unlikely of victories.

However, two goals in the final three minutes from Tom Elliot and Jed Wallace scuppered Leeds’ comeback, but the home fans were appreciative of their side’s effort nonetheless and let their hands do the talking at full time.
“It shows as well that we have an intelligent group of fans,” O’Kane, who was suspended, told LUTV of the post-match applause.
“It’s easy to look at that and say we lost. The fans here appreciate effort.

“They want to win all the time, but whatever the circumstances are, providing you come off the pitch giving everything that you’ve had to give, they are happy with you.”
Consequence of the defeat, Leeds slipped to 10th in the Championship and are now three points adrift of the top six.
