Etherington optimistic as Moyes impresses at West Ham

David Moyes was appointed West Ham United manager on Tuesday, replacing Slaven Bilic.

Matthew Etherington has told West Ham United fans on Twitter that he is “quietly optimistic” over the club’s future under new manager David Moyes.

Moyes, 54, was appointed as the Hammers manager on Tuesday after the club had sacked Croatian boss Slaven Bilic, needing less than 24 hours to attract their replacement.

The board’s decision to bring in Moyes was met with huge backlash among large sections of the West Ham faithful, criticising their club’s lack of drive after the Scottish boss’ difficult spells at Manchester United, Sunderland and Real Sociedad.

However, former West Ham winger Etherington’s Tweet will come as a surprise to some as he is impressed with the former Everton manager in his first days as West Ham boss; stating that everything “looks very positive”.

Moyes has already taken charge of West Ham training and will be looking to get his tactics and approach across to the squad as soon as possible, before they face Watford at Vicarage Road on November 19.

The Hammers are on a poor run of form against Marco Silva’s side, winning just one of their last five meetings which came back in April 2016 thanks to an Andy Carroll strike and two Mark Noble penalties.
