Leeds United should keep an eye on Ethan Ampadu if Kalvin Phillips leaves Elland Road.

Leeds United might be set for a big boost with regards to Aston Villa-linked Kalvin Phillips.

The 23-year-old is heavily linked with a move to the newly-promoted Premier League side, with Team Talk reporting on Monday that Aston Villa would be willing to do a player-plus-cash deal for the United midfielder.

But the same publication reported that Leeds were hopeful of tying Phillips down to a new deal.

Who knows whether it’s true or not, but what we do know is that the Whites definitely need a shortlist of potential replacements in the event that Phillips does leave – and Frank Lampard has a cracking option.

The Chelsea boss confirmed on Tuesday that he would be sending Ethan Ampadu out on loan this summer [BBC Sport] and, should Phillips leave Elland Road, the 18-year-old would be a fine replacement.

Ampadu isn’t as experienced as the Thorp Arch gem, but he is a scary talent and one that Marcelo Bielsa will like.

Bielsa likes his players to be flexible in the sense that they can play in several positions, and Ampadu, like Phillips, can play in defensive midfield and as a centre-back.

The teenager has a very bright future and, despite tensions between Leeds and the former Derby County boss over the infamous Spygate saga, Bielsa should certainly enquire about him if he loses Phillips.
