Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho and Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen are two of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League.

Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho has a shot at goal

Steve Nicol has suggested on ESPN FC that Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho is better than Tottenham Hotspur ace Christian Eriksen.

Coutinho and Eriksen are two of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League and were brilliant for Liverpool and Tottenham respectively last season.

While the 25-year-old Brazil international, who can also operate as a winger, scored 13 goals and provided seven assists in 31 Premier League appearances for the Reds, the 25-year-old Denmark international scored eight goals and provided 15 assists in 36 league games for Spurs.

Tottenham's Christian Eriksen reacts

Liverpool legend Nicol has suggested that Coutinho is better than Eriksen.

“The last time I heard, I didn’t hear Christian Eriksen being mentioned in the same breath as Barcelona, Coutinho has been,” Nicol said on ESPN FC when asked to pick between Coutinho and Eriksen.

“I think that answers your question. As good as Christian Eriksen is, you would take Coutinho over Eriksen every week.”

Coutinho is a very good and creating attacking midfielder, but Eriksen is more consistent and has been at the top of his game for a longer period of time.

Tottenham finished second in the Premier League last season, while Liverpool ended up fourth in the standings.

Both Spurs and the Reds will be aiming to challenge for the Premier League title during the 2017-18 campaign.
