Steve Nicol says Tottenham need a player like Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and won’t succeed on their current path.
Nicol believes they will continue to fall short and be nearly men unless they add a star player – and cites Arsenal hero Alexis Sanchez as the player they really need.

Tottenham have not yet signed any players, with chairman Daniel Levy recently stating the club would prefer to trust their academy kids than make a signing who is not right for the club.
Nicol told ESPN: “They have to realise to take next step they have to bring in better than what they already have.
“When was the last time a team that trusted their academy won the league? Probably back in the early 90s with Fergie. You can forget that, its not happening.
“To win Premier League, to do well in Champions League, they have to go out and speculate to accumulate, and they are not doing it.
“They are missing one big signing, a Sanchez, somebody like that would make all the difference and push them closer to winning the title.”

There is of course little to no chance of Arsenal selling Sanchez to Tottenham this summer, although Spurs fans could dream that the Chilean pulls a reverse Sol Campbell and joins them on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer – although his wage demands would even make that unlikely.
Tottenham need to go out and find their own Sanchez, and take a gamble.
They were of course burned by their spending on Moussa Sissoko, Vincent Janssen and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou last summer, but Victor Wanyama improved the team, and they should be prepared to risk more failure in order to try and achieve success.
