Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Manchester United, Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Watford players feature in Craig Burley’s Premier League Midseason XI.
Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley has named his Premier League Midseason XI on ESPN.
The former Scotland international has named two Tottenham Hotspur and two Arsenal players, and as many as four Leicester City stars in his team.
Hugo Lloris (Tottenham)
Hector Bellerin (Arsenal) – Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham) – Chris Smalling (Manchester United) – Christian Fuchs (Leicester)
Riyad Mahrez (Leicester), N’Golo Kante (Leicester), Yohan Cabaye (Palace), Mesut Ozil (Arsenal)
Jamie Vardy (Leicester), Odion Ighalo (Watford)
Not everyone will agree with all the selections, but Burley has picked a very strong team with each of the players playing well so far this season.
Hugo Lloris is a world-class goalkeeper and has been in superb form for Tottenham Hotspur, although many Premier League observers would argue that Stoke City’s Jack Butland should be ahead of him.
Tottenham’s Kyle Walker has been brilliant at right-back so far this campaign, but Hector Bellerin has been so good for Arsenal in that position that he has kept Mathieu Debuchy out of the team.
Toby Alderweireld of Tottenham is arguably the best centre-back in the Premier League at the moment, while Chris Smalling has been a rock for Manchester United in defence.
However, perhaps Arsenal central defender Laurent Koscielny should be ahead of Smalling.
Christian Fuchs of Leicester at left-back will be debated, especially with Arsenal’s Nacho Monreal in such good form at the moment.
As for the rest of the team, no argument whatsoever.
