Craig Burley has commented on Liverpool’s goalkeeping situation.
Pundit Craig Burley has told ESPN that he thinks Liverpool should target a player like Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris they decide to move for a new goalkeeper.
The Reds chose to sign Loris Karius over the summer to compete with Simon Mignolet between the sticks, and the German arrived with a strong reputation having impressed with Mainz last season.

However, Liverpool have been left disappointed by Karius, as he has made a number of mistakes, leading Jurgen Klopp to bring Mignolet back in to the side.
Some believe that Liverpool should look to bring in another goalkeeper in January, and Leicester City star Kasper Schmeichel has been suggested this week.
The Dane helped Leicester City win the Premier League title last season, and has been one of the Premier League’s top goalkeepers over the past 18 months.

However, pundit Craig Burley has offered his view on Schmeichel to ESPN, suggesting that whilst he is a good goalkeeper, he isn’t the great goalkeeper that Liverpool need if they are to make a change from Karius or Mignolet.
Burley believes that Liverpool would have to attempt to sign a truly elite goalkeeper to make a move worthwhile, and suggested Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris as a possible target.
“They’ve got two goalkeepers; Karius, is 23, he’s struggled a bit and been dropped, and Mignolet who’s more experienced, makes some great saves but has got an error in him,” said Burley.
“I put Kasper Schmeichel in that category where he’s a good goalkeeper, but not a great goalkeeper. I think they have to be aiming higher if they’re going to make a change. If they were going to go for somebody, they’d have to be looking at the calibre of Hugo Lloris, and people like that,” he added.
Lloris, 29, is on a contract stand-off with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy according to The Mirror, but it seems highly unlikely that Liverpool would be able to tempt Spurs into selling him to the Anfield club, and the player himself may see that as something of a sideways move – but Burley is right in that Liverpool should only sign a new goalkeeper if they are a considerable upgrade on Karius and Mignolet, and Klopp should stick with both of them otherwise.
