Tottenham Hotspur got their groove back with a big win this weekend.
Craig Burley has told ESPN that he feels obliged to give Tottenham Hotspur credit for their 5-0 demolition of Swansea City on Saturday afternoon.
Spurs put their South-Welsh counterparts to the sword with a ruthless showing against Bob Bradley’s side, who sit bottom of the Premier League.
Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen both bagged themselves a brace, while Son Heung-min grabbed the other with an excellent volley to make it 2-0 at the break.
This time last week Tottenham were recovering from a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Chelsea, having gone out of the Champions League a few days prior to that.
Consequently, Burnley ripped the Lilywhites – and manager Mauricio Pochettino – apart in his analysis, but the Scot has told ESPN that the North Londoners deserve praise this weekend – even if it was against Swansea.
“I battered Tottenham last week for leaving players out of the Champions League, treating it like it was a tin-pot cup, and then for folding against Chelsea.
“But I’ve got to give them credit. Yes it was a team who are bottom of the league – I get that – but you’ve still got to do it. You’ve still got to recover from that poor week and they’ve done that.”
It was certainly a fine victory but it could count for little if they lose at Manchester United next weekend.
Pochettino’s side are already seven points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea and they don’t need to give themselves a bigger mountain to climb heading into the festive period.
