Arsenal enter the North London derby below Tottenham in the Premier League table… again.
ESPN pundit and goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has criticised Arsenal for their continued downwards trend.
The Gunners are 12 points behind league leaders Manchester City and look out of the title race already and it has only just turned November.
They lost 3-1 to City at the weekend, and manager Arsene Wenger bemoaned refereeing decisions after the game.
Hislop criticised this, feeling Arsenal should look at themselves and pointed out their celebrations at finishing second in 2015/16 ahead of Tottenham as a prelude to their recent decline.
He told ESPN: “Two seasons ago, the worst Premier League we’ve seen for 5-10 years, Leicester won it, but Arsenal were celebrating at the end, why, because they finished above Spurs…and I said then, you’re celebrating the wrong things.
“Your bar is supposed to be a whole lot higher than that, and then look what happened the following season, look how Spurs are continuing to kick on, look how Arsenal continue to cling to the wrong things.”
Arsenal were criticised before this by pundits even for celebrating fourth placed finishes.
They have not won the Premier League since 2003/04 and do not appear to possess a winner’s mentality.
This comes from the top with Arsene Wenger appearing to tolerate being second, third, fourth or even fifth best, and the club’s board letting the Frenchman off the hook despite taking the club backwards.
