The young goalie appears to still be firmly in the thought process of his parent club.

Espanyol goalkeeping coach Thomas N’Kono has been commenting on Pau Lopez’s loan spell at Tottenham Hotspur this week – as many fans wonder why on eart he was signed by the club in the first place.

The Spaniard joined Spurs on a season-long loan deal in the summer but has so far failed to make any significant impact at the club.

He is behind experienced duo Michel Vorm and Hugo Lloris in the pecking order at Spurs and has been reduced to playing mainly in the development team.

Despite his lack of first-team action the Cameroonian, who spent nearly ten years at Espanyol as a player, believes he will be gaining valuable experience during his time in London.

Speaking to Pericos Online N’Kono stated:

“Experience is always important, can leave home and grow.

“We have been talking with him, and he knows that he’s going to grow, I think that this aspect will be seeing another positive football and another way to train.”

His comments on his growth however seem to suggest that Espanyol have every intention of bringing Lopez back to the club in the summer.

At the moment the club have experienced stoppers Roberto and Diego Lopez at the club, but clearly see Lopez as a player for the future still.

Tottenham however reportedly have an option to buy the player at £6 million at the end of his loan, according to the London Evening Standard.

It will be interesting to see where Lopez ends up sticking around come the end of the season.
