Espanyol confirm bid has been made for €10m Tottenham target

Hector Moreno has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur and

Mauricio Pochettino was appointed as the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur this summer, taking over from the controversial figure that is Tim Sherwood and leaving his post as Southampton manager after a sensational season at St Marys.

Spurs are a team with perpetual potential, however, they again fell short of the Champions League last term and hope is high Pochettino can get them back to the elite.

If he is to do so the club need to strengthen up at the back and the club have been linked with a number of options this summer.

They have been rumoured to be considering a bid to bring Steven Caulker back to the club after an impressive term at Cardiff City, while his former stooge at Southampton Dejan Lovren is also a reported target.

But since the World Cup started it has been Hector Moreno doing the rounds. The Espanyol defender has been in terrific form for El Tricolore in Brazil – helping them negotiate a tough Group A undefeated into the second round.

Pochettino signed Moreno from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in 2011 when Espanyol boss – so he was always going to be a name linked with Moreno’s signature.

And now Espanyol have confirmed there has been a bid for the player.

Mundo Deportivo have spoken to Espanyol’s president Juan Collet who confirmed that a bid was made, but would not divulge who had made the bid.

He confirmed that the bid was not from a fellow Spanish team but a foreign side – with Marseille the other team linked with making the bid.

However Espanyol are believed to want €10 million for the player – a figure this bid is not believed to have reached.

It might well have been Tottenham, it might have been Marseille – but the fact Espanyol are openly discussing the future of the player can only bode well for Pochettino and Tottenham’s chase for one of his former stars.
