Leeds United will base their attack around Scottish forward Lee Erwin next season.
Leeds United have wasted no time making signings under Uwe Rosler, following his appointment at Elland Road as head coach.
One of the players the German has drafted in is Lee Erwin, who signed on the dotted line after a spell with Motherwell, to end the chance of an old player returning to the club in the form of Jermaine Beckford.
Beckford is a popular figure at the club for his goalscoring exploits when he was a Leeds striker, but he ended any hopes of a return when he signed a new long term deal with his current employers Preston, under ex-Leeds manager Simon Grayson.
It will certainly be interesting to see how they each do up against each other next season, over the course of a long 46 game campaign.
Beckford is the older and more experienced player, but Erwin comes into the Championship with a clean slate and looking to make an impression given the faith he’s been shown by Leeds.
Here’s a selection of thoughts from readers across HITC, debating whether Leeds have missed a trick by not re-signing Beckford.
John8oy: There will be no comparison. Erwin is a great signing, but a signing for the future, his job is to break into the side. Beckford will get 20+ goals next year if he stays fit. It’s our loss
Martin: League 1 player, flag we didn’t sign him. Very rare for a returning player to succeed
Ropey Wyla: Preston to Leeds is a massive step up regardless of what division either club are in. We will rue not signing Beckford and he will rue signing for Preston as they will concede buckets of goals as all Grayson sides do
Bruce: I’m not bothered about Beckford, he’s in the past. I hope we have a good season, not sure about the playoffs but fingers crossed
Emmerdale: Leeds didn’t want Beckford neither did the fans his level is league one
Richard booth: Beckford needed 5 chances to score one when he was with us and time hasn’t done him any favours
