Erling Haaland and Manchester City have begun the season in scintillating fashion and the Norwegian looks as happy as ever at the Etihad.
Seven goals, including two hat-tricks, have come in his first three games yet talk of his future is now almost as constant as his goalscoring feats.
Haaland has three-years left on his current City contract, but despite their best efforts, the English champions have been unable to agree a new deal with their Nordic talisman – although they soon hope that will change.

Erling Haaland willing to sign new City contract
HITC understands that Haaland is willing to sign a new contract at Manchester City but we are told that the Norwegian’s representatives have reiterated to the club that they have no intention of removing the release clauses from his current contract.
Haaland arrived at City in 2022 on a five-year deal, which included release clauses that would become active from 2024 onwards. The initial clause, though, was tied to the future of Pep Guardiola and once he signed his new deal at that time, the 2024 clause was negated.
However, Haaland does have clause that becomes active from 2025 – allowing him, in theory, to leave. The set fee is not yet known but is understood to be around £150million although it it is believed this figure does come down over the duration of his deal.
Sources have told HITC that these clauses are not tied to any specific clubs such as Real Madrid or Barcelona, although we can confirm that both clubs are aware of Haaland’s situation. We are told that Barca president Joan Laporta is a ‘huge fan’ of Haaland and believes he could be the ideal replacement for Robert Lewandowski in the long-term.
New deal will have to have clauses in
HITC can confirm that City have been talking to Haaland about a new deal since 2022 – months after he arrived, as the club looked to try and remove the clauses, but the Scandinavian superstar has made it clear that won’t happen.
Haaland has always had clauses in his deal throughout his career and that will not change going forward. He is open to signing a new deal that will see him become the highest paid player in the Premier League – but he will only put pen-to-paper with clauses within it.
HITC is told that City are now open to the clauses being included in a new deal, but any new terms would almost certainly mean that they can negotiate the date of these to become active – so instead of 2025 they may be put back to 2026.
Haaland’s representative Rafaela Pimenta has assured City that they clauses are not merely weapons to force a move, but they give assurances to the player that his future remains in his own hands.
