Tottenham Hotspur take on West Ham United this weekend.
Tottenham Hotspur host London rivals West Ham United this weekend in an intriguing Premier League clash which will see Christian Eriksen and Manuel Lanzini go head-to-head.
The latter has been one of the biggest surprises of the season thus far, joining the Hammers on a season-long loan from Al Jazira and putting in a string of top performances
The Argentine, 22, was relatively unknown to most Premier League observers upon his arrival and some could be forgiven for predicting a struggle considering Angel di Maria’s short stint at Manchester United.
However, he has proved himself very capable of standing up to the physical demands of English football and he heads into Sunday’s encounter with Spurs as one of West Ham’s outstanding players.
| Goals | Assists | Shots per game | Key Passes per Game | Take-ons per Game | Touches per Game | Accurate Passes per Game | Ball Recoveries per Game | Appearances | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Manuel Lanzini | 3 | 1 | 2.1 | 0.9 | 2.3 | 47.3 | 30.2 | 5.2 | 10 |
| Christian Eriksen | 2 | 3 | 2.44 | 3.11 | 0.89 | 63 | 34 | 5.11 | 9 |
As per the table provided by Opta Stats, Lanzini impresses in a number of key areas. However, on Sunday he comes up against an opponent who is also at the very top of his game.
Eriksen will want to put the disappointment of Denmark’s Euro 2016 Qualification Playoff defeat to Sweden quickly behind him and return to winning ways at White Hart Lane.
The former Ajax man has been superb this season, contributing with one goal and three assists while averaging more shots, key passes, touches and accurate passes per match than Lanzini.
With Dimitri Payet injured, more pressure will be on Lanzini to step up yet it’s a position which Eriksen as accustomed to over the past 18 months as he is widely regarded as the main creator at Spurs
The hosts head in to the clash unbeaten in 11 Premier League games, while West Ham sit on the same points in the table following their equally impressive start to the season.
