Ozil and Eriksen had superb seasons for Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur respectively, but who comes out on top?

With Leicester City eventually running away with the Premier League title, the battle for second place became the focus of attention.
Tottenham Hotspur had been ahead of rivals Arsenal for much of the season after a fine campaign under Mauricio Pochettino.
It did not stay that way though, as a last day capitulation to Newcastle United saw the Gunners finish second in the table.
The two teams finished close in the league, but how did their star men compare in the stats across this past this season?
We decided to find out, starting with attacking midfielders Christian Eriksen and Mesut Ozil.
| Team | Season | Goals | Goal Assist | Key Passes per Game | Accurate Pass per Game | Successful Final Third Passes per Game | Accurate Cross per Game | Won Contest per Game | Touches per Game | Appearances | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Christian Eriksen | Tottenham | 2015-2016 | 6 | 13 | 3.29 | 42.71 | 17.97 | 1.17 | 1 | 73.77 | 35 |
| Mesut Özil | Arsenal | 2015-2016 | 6 | 19 | 4.17 | 56.11 | 29.09 | 2.66 | 1.31 | 84.66 | 35 |
Unfortunately for the Danish midfielder, he didn’t come close to competing with Ozil in the eight areas we looked at.
Ozil came out on top in seven overall, with the two players sitting level on goals, having both managed six across the year.
The German topped the assists charts in the Premier League with 19, six more than Eriksen managed, as well as beating him in key passes per game.
He was dominant in other passing areas too, playing more accurate passes per game and more successful final third passes per game.
Crossing followed a similar route, as well as dribbles won per game and touches per game, in a comparison that shows Eriksen has some way to competing with Ozil in future.
