Christian Eriksen has stated that his former Tottenham Hotspur teammate Victor Wanyama is the best African player he has played alongside.
The Manchester United midfielder also shared Wanyama’s ‘love’ for Pasta and how the 31-year-old midfielder was ‘the man’ to protect him when they were in Spurs colours.
That team that Mauricio Pochettino built a number of years ago was an incredible side, with Eriksen and Wanyama regular starters.

Eriksen was the one who made the ball talk in the middle of the park, the ability to score some incredible long-range goals, including one notable one against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
But Wanyama was the hard-hitting defensive brain in the middle of the park, and alongside Moussa Dembele, they created a partnership Spurs fans won’t forget.
Nonetheless, when Eriksen was asked who the best African player he has played alongside was, he put forward Wanyama’s name, as he told Premier League Productions (12/09/22 at 11:10 am).
“The best African player? I would say (played) with, Victor Wanyama,” said Eriksen. “First of all, he loves pasta. That was a big thing, I think, for him.
“In regards to his playing style, he was the man always protecting the midfield. In my role, as the free role, it was him to protect and he did that very well. He was very good defensively and I loved playing alongside him.”

WANYAMA AN UNSUNG HERO FOR SPURS
The likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Son Heung-min and Eriksen, to name a few, would get a lot of the spotlight when Tottenham were turning it up under Pochettino.
But someone like Wanyama was an unsung hero for the club and an outstanding player when his body was at 100%.
The unfortunate thing for him was that injuries and the fast-paced nature of the Premier League meant that his body could no longer cope and he had to depart Hotspur Way in 2020.
He is now plying his trade in the MLS for Montreal, which is a shame because the peak years of his career, because of injuries, were spent away from the best league in the world.
