Was Christian Eriksen’s performance against Sunderland his best ever game for the club?

Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen hit yet another late winning goal to lead the club to a 2-1 win over Sunderland.

It was his eighth Premier League strike of the season, to make him the club’s top scorer in the division with eight goals to his name.

It puts Eriksen level with Harry Kane, although in all competitions the England under-21 star is up to 16 goals and Nacer Chadli on nine, according to BBC figures.

Yet it is not just the goalscoring which Eriksen brings to his side. Against Sunderland he created more chances from open play than in any other Premier League game he has played for the club in two seasons.

Including set pieces, Eriksen’s most prolific game for key passes came against Newcastle this season at White Hart Lane when he created nine chances in total, but only five were from open play – and Tottenham lost the game.

In this game against Sunderland, Eriksen not only put together a number of chances for his teammates to try to score from, but seized the moment himself to hit a decisive winning goal.

At only 22-years-old, Eriksen is marking himself out as not only a star of the future but one of the top players in the league at present, and it’s an exciting thought for Tottenham fans to consider how good he could become if he continues to improve.
