Recent European opponent Erik Sviatchenko thinks Rangers have a good chance in the upcoming UEFA Europa League tie against Legia Warsaw, The Scottish Sun report.

The former Celtic man has had a lot to say about the Gers over the last few weeks but has been magnanimous with his most recent comments, wishing Steven Gerrard’s side well for upcoming encounters.

Alfredo Morelos and company play in Poland on Thursday night hoping to pick up a positive first leg result to bring home to Ibrox next week.

Having recently come up against the Gers, Sviatchenko is well placed to judge the team’s current ability and thinks they can do well in the play-off round.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said: “All the best to Rangers as they were the much better team over the two legs.

“I don’t want to say they can go on and make an impact on the Europa League, but they certainly have a good chance against Legia Warsaw. We played them in the group stages four years ago and they were good.

“But anything can happen on these big occasions, particularly when the fans at Ibrox are with them. All the best to Rangers.”

Can Rangers make it into the group stages?

The form of both sides certainly suggest that Gerrard’s team will be more than competitive across the two legs.

Legia haven’t been defeated in seven matches but with multiple 0-0 draws and tight victories they haven’t quite found the kind of attacking edge that threatens to trouble Rangers too much.

The Gers meanwhile have been in lethal scoring form both domestically and in Europe.

It’s certainly not going to be an easy encounter but there’s no reason why Rangers can’t have confidence heading into the fixture and hope to reach the group stages for the second successive year.
