Erik Sviatchenko looks like he could be on his way out of Celtic during the January transfer window.

Sviatchenko arrived at Parkhead during Ronny Deila’s tenure and had featured fairly regularly up until this season – making 43 appearances for the Scottish Premiership side in all competitions last term.

However, he has made just two appearances this season and none since August, with the likes of Kristoffer Ajer and Dedryck Boyata playing regularly for the Bhoys in recent times. And Sviatchenko has now confirmed amid plenty of discussion about his future that Rodgers has opened the door for him to leave this month.
“He has told me to find another club,” he told TV3 Sport.

“Clubs in several leagues have contacted my agent. These are attractive clubs, so I’m looking forward to my future with optimism.”
While Sviatchenko has probably not quite convinced all of the Celtic fans during his time with the club, there may well be some who are disappointed that he looks set to leave as he enjoyed some very bright moments for the Bhoys.
And with their other established centre-back options not always proving entirely reliable and Ajer still awaiting the chance to prove that he can sustain his current form over a prolonged period, Celtic fans may well be hoping that Sviatchenko’s potential departure leads to Rodgers taking action.
Celtic look to be in command of the Scottish Premiership once again this season, but it could certainly be argued that letting the window close without signing another new centre-back, especially if they sell Sviatchenko, could prove to be a bit of a gamble with the Europa League knockout stages just around the corner.
