Ex-Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko has discussed his exit from the club.

Former Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko has told The Scottish Herald that he doesn’t know exactly why he had to leave the club – but revealed that he has a Celtic TV login to keep up with the club.

Celtic swooped to land Sviatchenko from Midtjylland in January 2016, with then-manager Ronny Deila using his knowledge of Scandinavian football to land him.

Sviatchenko starred for the Bhoys under Deila, and then racked up 43 appearances in his first season under Brendan Rodgers, becoming a key player at Parkhead.

However, that all changed last season, with Sviatchenko making just two appearances before deciding to leave in January 2018, returning to Denmark with former club Midtjylland.

Celtic fans may have some good memories of Sviatchenko, including a towering header against Old Firm rivals Rangers in April 2016.

Now, Sviatchenko has commented on his exit, admitting that isn’t exactly sure why he slipped down the pecking order and had to leave – but revealed the club gave him a Celtic TV login as a parting gift.

Sviatchenko also feels Celtic fans will eventually be grateful for Brendan Rodgers’ time at the club, and whilst he understands the disappointment over his exit to Leicester, the Dane preferred to look at the finer aspects of his time at Parkhead.

“They were kind enough to give me a Celtic TV login. So, I’m never far away. There was a bit of me that wondered why,” said Sviatchenko about his exit. “I don’t really know why it came to an end for me. But I have a lot to be thankful for so I am not sore that I did not get more time but rather grateful for the time that I had. And I think in time that Celtic fans will see the entirety of Brendan’s time at the club that way too.”

“He brought Champions League football back. He brought an exciting brand of football and he won seven trophies out of seven. He put a smile on a lot of people’s faces. I understand why people were so disappointed but you have to remember what the past few seasons have felt like for a Celtic supporter,” he added.
