Celtic have sold Gary Mackay-Steven to Aberdeen.

Celtic have sold Gary Mackay-Steven to Aberdeen, with the winger signing a two-year deal with the Dons, BBC Sport report.

It is two-and-a-half seasons since Mackay-Steven joined Celtic along with Dundee United teammate Stuart Armstrong.

He played a part in three Celtic title wins, and will be hoping to try and bring Aberdeen closer to Brendan Rodgers’ all conquering side.

Now ex-teammate Erik Sviatchenko was quick off the mark to send him a message after his move was confirmed – and make a point of telling Mackay-Steven he cannot wait to duel with him next season.

Mackay-Steven played 63 games for Celtic in total, scoring 10 goals for the club.

It was a lack of regular starts which led to his desire to move on, and he will have a very different challenge with Aberdeen next season.

He deserves credit for making it too, for it would have been easier to sit on Celtic’s bench and likely collect a couple of medals at the end of the season.

His presence will add just a little extra spice to the Celtic versus Aberdeen clashes next season, especially with Jonny Hayes having made the move in the opposite direction.
