Erik Sviatchenko has responded to a Celtic fan on Twitter who took exception to the former Hoops defender wishing Brendan Rodgers’s side good luck against Valencia on Thursday night.

Celtic take on the Spanish side at the Mestalla stadium in the second leg of their round of 32 tie, after losing 2-0 to Marcelino’s men in the first leg at Parkhead last week.

Goals from Russia World Cup star Denis Cheryshev and Rafael Sobrino was enough to dampen Celtic fans’ hearts, but they remain hopeful of a surprise comeback in Thursday night’s encounter.

Sviatchenko – now with Danish side FC Midtjylland – wished his old side the best of luck ahead of the Europa League clash, as they look to achieve one of the best ever comeback’s in the club’s European history.

The 27-year-old defender, who left Celtic for around £1million to rejoin Midtjylland in the summer of 2018, played 63 times for the Scottish champions – helping them win two Scottish Premiership titles.

A Celtic fan responded surprisingly disgruntled to Sviatchenko’s Tweet, posting “Calm down mate, we aren’t going to sign you again”. Sviatchenko replied in a calm, and mature manner, stating: “No worries mate. Just a happy former player who follows his old team and teammates.”

Celtic fans reacted to Sviatchenko’s Tweet, with the majority disagreeing with the fan that confronted the powerhouse defender. Many would take him back in a “heartbeat”.
