The Ibrox boss and the former Celtic man had words after Rangers’ match against Midtjylland.

FC Midtjylland defender Erik Sviatchenko has lifted the lid on what went on between him and Rangers manager Steven Gerrard after the two sides met in UEFA Europa League action at Ibrox last Thursday, The Scottish Sun report.

Gerrard and Sviatchenko are reported to have exchanged words in an altercation after the full-time whistle.

However, the Rangers boss moved to play it all down last week, suggesting that he simply wished him well for the rest of the season (The Scottish Sun).

The former Hoops defender has provided an alternative view of the incident though, suggesting that Gerrard was reacting to comments made by Sviatchenko prior to the European tie.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the 27-year-old said: “Yes, he made a gesture that suggested, ‘You’re not so funny anymore’, or ‘You’re quiet now’ — something like that.

“I don’t know why he said that because my comments throughout have been respectful and I said nothing. It’s up to him what he wants to say after the game.

“They deserved the victories so we should just have shaken hands and moved on.”

Sviatchenko had claimed prior to the matches against Rangers that it would be a ’50/50′ tie and that he was hoping to beat the Gers to please Celtic supporters (The Daily Record).

Rangers dominated the encounters and ended up winning 7-3 on aggregate, so the defender’s prediction didn’t quite come to pass.

However, the two-legged tie was hardly the most heated on the pitch, so that Gerrard felt the need to reference it post-match is slightly bizarre.

Apparently he felt that Sviatchenko overstepped the mark somewhat.

The Gers boss will be hoping his team can produce similar performances against Legia Warsaw, starting tomorrow night in Poland.
