Erik Sviatchenko has revealed to the Daily Mail that Brendan Rodgers’ appointment at Celtic was big news in Denmark.
The former Liverpool manager was appointed as the new Celtic boss last month following Ronny Deila’s departure at the end of last season.
His arrival at the club was heralded as a major coup for the Scottish champions, who are thought to have fought off Premier League interest in his services.
Indeed, the move did surprise many who felt he was destined for a return to the English top flight next season.
Nonetheless, there is huge optimism about the appointment in Scotland, and Sviatchenko says it was similarly big news in Denmark as it shows the club has a really good reputation once again.
“His signing was big news in Denmark,” he told the Daily Mail. “I think, even though people know Celtic are a big club, they sometimes forget how good they are. To sign a manager like that shows you have a really good reputation again.”
It now remains to be seen whether Rodgers can be a success at Celtic next season as they eye their sixth successive Premiership title.
He faces a harder challenge than his predecessor did, with the return of Rangers to the top flight meaning there is added competition for the Hoops next season.
Mark Warburton’s side have already signaled their intent to challenge with a raft of signings and Rodgers will be keen to make his own to ensure Celtic stay top dogs in Scotland.
