Erik Sviatchenko joined FC Midtjylland on loan from Brendan Rodgers Celtic in the January transfer window.

Scott Brown, Erik Sviatchenko and Stuart Armstrong of Celtic celebrate during the Betfred Cup Final between Aberdeen and Celtic at Hampden Park on November 27, 2016 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Celtic-owned central defender Erik Sviatchenko has been quoted as saying by The Daily Record he is open to leaving the club on a permanent basis in the summer of 2018.

Sviatchenko joined his former club FC Midtjylland on loan from Celtic in the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old Denmark international, who has made 63 appearances for Celtic so far in his career, will remain at the Danish club until the end of the season.

The centre-back, who has been on the books of the Hoops since January 2016 when he joined from Midtjylland for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £1.5 million, has suggested that he is open to leaving Celtic Park on a permanent deal in the summer of 2018.

Erik Sviatchenko of Celtic arrives at the stadium prior to the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on March 12, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Daily Record quotes Sviatchenko as saying: “The plan is definitely to continue abroad when I have won the championship with FC Midtjylland.

“The ultimate dream has always been the Premier League, but I’m also realistic. I could imagine a trip to Holland, France or the Championship, if there is a bid for me.”

Permanent exit inevitable?

Sviatchenko is a good central defender, but the Denmark international has failed to make a huge impact at Celtic so far.

Given that the 26-year-old is not in manager Brendan Rodgers’s plans, it would make sense for the centre-back to leave the Glasgow giants on a permanent basis in the summer of 2018.

The aforementioned comments from Sviatchenko suggest that it is inevitable that he will leave Celtic.
