Celtic have sold Stuart Armstrong to Premier League side Southampton.

Kristoffer Ajer and former Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko have posted on Instagram to congratulate midfielder Stuart Armstrong after it was confirmed he had joined English Premier League side Southampton.
Armstrong, 26, has signed a four-year deal with Mark Hughes’ side, joining the Saints after intense speculation surrounding his signature since last summer.

The fee is believed to be in the region of £7million (Sky Sports), with the former Dundee United star joining Southampton with only a year left to run on his previous Celtic contract.
Known to be close acquaintances with defenders Ajer and Sviatchenko, Armstrong was congratulated by the duo on Instagram with the Danish defender captioning: “I’ll have a Saints jersey, please”.
Armstrong first made himself known to Premier League clubs after an excellent 2016-17 season which saw Brendan Rodgers finally get the best out of the Scotland international.
He scored 17 goals from midfield in the Hoops’ first treble-winning season, but failed to replicate that kind of form last term with only five goals to his name – with some of the opinion that interest down south turned his head.
