Tottenham star Lamela’s former side River Plate won the Copa Libertadores on Sunday night.

Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela has congratulated River Plate superstar Juan Fernando Quintero on Instagram after the Colombian helped Lamela’s former side win the Copa Libertadores on Sunday.
The first leg saw River secure a 2-2 away draw at their opponents Boca Juniors in the two-legged final of South America’s version of the Champions League, in which all of the continent’s best sides take part.
Due to riots and concerns over fan safety, the venue for the second leg was taken away from River’s home ground of the Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti, and brought to Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu in Spain.
With the scores locked at 1-1, extra-time was required to separate the two sides before Quintero struck – scoring a magnificent goal that hit the bar and went in from 20 yards. Lamela congratulated the playmaker on Instagram, posting: “You deserve it”.

Tottenham staff could have been watching the clash with a close eye, after Quintero was linked with a move to north London in the summer. Quintero is currently on loan at River, from Portuguese giants FC Porto – he will remain there until January.
Argentine outlet Ole claimed as much, stating Spurs were going up against Real for the Colombian’s signature. It is believed that Quintero is set to complete a £3million move to River when the loan expires.
His permanent contract at River will include a £19.5million release clause, which immediately puts his future at River in doubt after his World Cup antics and in deed Libertadores goal will have clubs around the world watching.
