Erik Lamela was arguably Tottenham Hotspur’s best player as they suffered a defeat at Wembley.

Erik Lamela sent out a defiant message on social media following Tottenham’s defeat to Liverpool on Saturday, insisting that he believes that this team can still achieve something special despite the latest setback.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men lost at home for the first time this term as the Reds left Wembley with a 2-1 victory, with Lamela’s excellent late finish giving Spurs a slight glimmer of hope heading into the final moments.
Tottenham should have had a penalty after their goal, but there appears to be few Spurs fans who believe that their side deserved a point – even if they should have arguably been awarded a spot-kick for the challenge on Son Heung-min.
Lamela was certainly the Tottenham player who emerged from the game with the most credit in tact. The Argentinian came on on the hour mark and was very impressive for a Spurs side that desperately needed some inspiration at that stage of the game, having gone 2-0 down five minutes before.

And while Pochettino’s men go into their Champions League clash with Inter Milan off the back of another defeat, Lamela has tried to restore some positivity with his reaction to the loss.
And in response, several Tottenham fans have praised the forward’s performance and suggested that he should get the chance to start Tuesday’s clash inside San Siro after his display against Liverpool.

Here is Lamela’s tweet, as well as some of the responses from the fans…
