Tottenham Hotspur star Erik Lamela has admitted on the club’s official website that he initially struggled after joining the team.
Lamela moved to Tottenham from Italian outfit AS Roma in the summer of 2013.
According to BBC Sport, the initial transfer fee that Spurs had to pay to secure the services of the Argentina international attacker was £25.7 million.
It was reported that the deal to recruit Lamela, who can play as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, included up to £4.2m in bonus payments.
The 24-year-old has admitted that he struggled when he first joined North London outfit Tottenham.
“At the beginning it was very tough, arriving in England, another style of football, another country, another language,” Lamela told Tottenham’s official website.
“I was injured for a long time as well. That was difficult. I played for three months but then I was injured for seven months. That’s football, you need to be strong and keep training.”
Lamela suffered a long-term injury in his debut season in England and was able to make just nine appearances in the Premier League in 2013-14.
During the 2014-15 campaign, the Argentine scored two goals and created 60 chances in 33 league matches for Spurs.
The 24-year-old scored five goals and created 75 chances in 34 Premier League games for Tottenham.
So far this campaign, Lamela has scored one goal and created 14 chances in seven league matches.
