Erik Lamela’s time at Tottenham Hotspur is now over – and Sergio Reguilon played some small part in him making the move to Sevilla.
Lamela joined Tottenham from Roma back in 2013, with Spurs splashing some of the Gareth Bale money to bring Lamela to North London.
Tipped for a huge future at the time, Lamela had starred in Italy but failed to really hit those heights in the Premier League.
Sections of the Tottenham fanbase loved Lamela for his occasional moments of magic and his penchant for the dark arts, but this felt like the right time to part ways.
Lamela has made a move to Spain, joining Sevilla in a player-plus-cash deal.
Tottenham landed Sevilla winger Bryan Gil, sending a significant fee alongside Lamela to the Andalusian club.
Lamela will now hope to make a big impact under Julen Lopetegui, and he has talked up Sergio Reguilon as a key influence.
Reguilon spent the 2019-20 season on loan at Sevilla, and his fine performances ultimately resulted in Tottenham signing him last summer.

Lamela has now told Sevilla’s official website that he spoke to Reguilon a lot before making his move to Spain, admitting that the Tottenham left back ‘spoke wonders’ about the club.
Lamela also heard great things from Federico Fazio and Diego Perotti, with Sevilla coming well-recommended by a number of players.
“I spoke with Reguilon a lot. Ever since his arrival to England he spoke wonders about the club,” said Lamela. “I knew that was the case – I know many Argentines who played here and they all speak well of the club. Federico Fazio, Perotti… I already knew it was a great club,” he added.
