Tottenham Hotspur attacker Erik Lamela has commented on his happiness at Spurs, as he once again mentions a desire to one day play for River Plate again.

Lamela joined Spurs in 2013 and struggled to settle into his new surroundings at White Hart Lane.

But after some time to adjust he has become an integral member of the Tottenham team, who again look like title challengers this season.

He started his career in Argentina with River Plate and has never hidden his desire to one-day return to his boyhood club.

But speaking ahead of international duty with Argentina the attacker made it clear that, at present, the thought of returning home was far from his mind as he is so happy at White Hart Lane.

He told La Pagina Millonaria:

“The people of River always supported me and treated me in the best way.

“I have always had the desire to come back, but also I am aware that I’m only 24 and I’m fine where I am.

“It’s a bit difficult to go back now, as I have many years of a contract still in Tottenham and I have to have my head in there and think only of what is coming at Tottenham.”

Spurs fans will be very pleased to hear just how settled Lamela now is at the club. It looked for a long time that he was set to be a flop at Spurs, with his name constantly linked with potential moves away from the club.

But now it seems he is more than happy at Spurs – so much so that his River Plate dream is edging closer to the back of his mind.
