Spurs took the gloss off a fantastic season with a poor showing in the final weeks.
Erik Lamela celebrates with Victor Wanyama after scoring
Erik Lamela has admitted that fatigue was a major factor in Tottenham’s end of season collapse, in quotes published by ESPN.
The Lilywhites enjoyed an excellent campaign overall but faltered in the final straight and went from title challengers to finishing third below bitter rivals Arsenal once all was said and done.

“We lost a lot of points in the last few games, maybe we were a little tired, sometimes that happens at the end of a season,” said Lamela.
“But we still did very well. We must not forget that. It is up to us to learn from the mistakes we made at the end of the season and start this time strongly to make sure if we are in that position again we will not let it go.”
Last season was the 24-year old’s best campaign yet for Spurs and he is now a world apart from the player who struggled initially following his big money move from Roma in the summer of 2013.
Tottenham’s Erik Lamela
The Argentine has modified his game and can always be relied upon to carry out Mauricio Pochettino’s instructions to the letter.
Aside from becoming something of a workhorse, Lamela has upped his productivity and has been among Tottenham’s most effective attacking midfielders recently – scoring 11 goals and assisting a further 10 last term.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino
Pochettino was hampered by an inability to effectively rotate last season and the late collapse was an inevitable by-product of this.
The signings of Vincent Janssen and Victor Wanyama have already plugged major gaps in the Spurs squad and with more arrivals set to follow, the Lilywhites should be able to avoid a similar scenario come May next year.
