Manchester City fans have taken to Twitter to react after Jérôme Boateng posted a tweet ahead of the Champions League final.
The 32-year-old uploaded a photo of himself and Pep Guardiola, from when the pair worked alongside each other at Bayern Munich.
In our view, the 76-cap Germany international was just wishing his former boss good luck ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final vs Chelsea.
However, some fans below seem to think Boateng’s tweet might have a deeper meaning.
The World Cup winner’s contract with Bayern Munich expires next month, and it has been confirmed that he’ll be leaving the Allianz Arena.
One supporter below suggested that he could now be heading to Manchester as a replacement for Eric García, who seems Barcelona bound.
Another asked Boateng if this was a subliminal message, while two other fans begged the towering centre-back to come home.
Homecoming for Boateng?
Some people might not know that the Berlin-born colossus used to play for the Citizens.
Boateng spent one season with Manchester City back in the 2010/11 campaign, where he made 24 appearances for the club.
In our view, it would be a surprise to see him return.
Guardiola doesn’t really need a replacement for García, as he has Nathan Aké sat in reserve alongside John Stones, Rúben Dias and Aymeric Laporte.
