Eric Dier said Tottenham’s Champions League performances haven’t been good enough, but dismissed any notion of a crisis after a 1-1 draw with Arsenal made it seven games without a win in all competitions.

Tottenham star Eric Dier has said they know their performances in the Champions League haven’t been good enough this season, and that manager Mauricio Pochettino didn’t need to say anything to convey his disappointment ahead of the weekend’s draw with Arsenal in the Premier League, the London Evening Standard reports.

Spurs are now in a precarious position in the Champions League – as they sit third in their group following a 1-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen at Wembley – on four points from their four games – two points behind qualification.

Dier is quoted in the Evening Standard, saying: “As players we understand and know that on Wednesday we were nowhere near good enough.

“Everyone knows that but when you play Arsenal away four days later, it isn’t nice but you have to move on from it, forget about it and go again.

“We worked so hard last year to be in the Champions League and our performances haven’t been good enough.

“We are all disappointed about that, but this is football and there is no point dwelling on the past. We have just got look forward now.”

Tottenham still remain unbeaten in the Premier League, but currently sit in fifth place in the Premier League after Harry Kane’s penalty at the Emirates Stadium secured their sixth league draw of the season – and Dier dismissed any notion of there being a ‘crisis’ at the club, having gone seven games without a win in all competitions.

They are currently five points off the leaders, but just the three points off the Champions League places – meaning if they are eliminated from the competition early on this season, they stand a good chance of re-entering it next year and trying to make amends.

As for their Champions League campaign alone, Spurs face a trip to Monaco – who are currently top of the group with eight points – before they face CSKA Moscow on the last matchday in December at Wembley. It feels as though two wins are needed for the side to get through to the last-16 of the competition, in order to rely less on results elsewhere.
