During Eric Dier’s Tottenham Hotspur career, he has been utilised in various roles by Mauricio Pochettino, from playing at right-back to deploying a midfield role.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier could be heading towards the North London exit door this summer, and truth be told, he shouldn’t have any complaints if Spurs decide to part ways with him.
The Sun are reporting that once the much-anticipated arrival of Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele is completed then someone like Dier could be sold.
The 25-year-old moved to White Hart Lane in 2014, and he became an instant hit with his early goals, especially against West Ham.
During the early part of his Spurs days, Dier was trying to cement his place in the team. He was being used as a right-back, and then later as a centre-back before he was moved into the middle of the park by his manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Despite a promising start to his Tottenham career, Dier’s performances have slipped in recent years and he no longer has that bite in his game.
The likes of Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks have overtaken him in midfield, and with the imminent arrival of ‘Ndombele, there is another player he has to fight to earn a starting birth.

Whilst in recent seasons Dier has received mixed reviews about his performances, former Premier League boss Sam Allardyce was pretty praising about his as a player.
In 2018, Allardyce, whilst speaking to TalkSport, compared Dier to Barcelona great Sergio Busquets, as he claimed that he cannot see much of a difference between the two players.
Well, that player is seemingly struggling in a Tottenham shirt now, and his recent performance for England at the UEFA Nations League doesn’t help his cause either.
Perhaps a kick up the backside will help Dier, but with his defensive qualities diminishing and other around him possessing better ability with the ball at their feet, Dier should have no complaints if he’s no longer a Spurs player by the end of the summer.
