England star Eric Dier reveals exactly where he told Jordan Henderson to deliver the corner which led to the Tottenham Hotspur man’s last-minute goal in Germany.
England hero Eric Dier has opened up on what he told team-mate Jordan Henderson just before his last-minute winner in Saturday’s 3-2 friendly win over Germany in Berlin.
The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder enhanced his burgeoning reputation with an excellent performance, which was capped off in heroic fashion as he headed home a corner from the Liverpool ace in the dying moments.
But the 22-year-old reveals that there was more to the goal than met the eye, as Dier asked Henderson to aim his delivery to the front post rather than the back post – a last-minute request which ultimately yielded handsome rewards.
“I told Jordan Henderson to put the corner to the front post, he had put a few to the back post,” he told ITV, as quoted by Goal.com. “He put it right there and I got my head to it. I’m delighted.”
It was, of course, England’s night, but it was also a night for Tottenham, who had three other players in Roy Hodgson’s first XI – Danny Rose, Dele Alli and Harry Kane.
In-form hitman Kane had thrown the Three Lions a big lifeline by making it 2-1 just after the hour mark, before Jamie Vardy equalised for the visitors.
Alli and Rose also finished the contest with acclaimed performances, and such a confidence booster can only benefit Spurs as they hunt down Leicester City in search of the Premier League title.
