Eric Dier claimed in a video posted on Tottenham’s official Twitter account that missing a chance to score a header in the second half against Everton left him “disappointed”, “frustrated” and “annoyed” despite the 5-0 win.

Dier, 28, continued his brilliant, resurgent form under Antonio Conte with another rock-solid display against Everton – keeping Dom Calvert-Lewin quiet throughout as Spurs cruised to a mammoth 5-0 win over the Toffees.

The 45-time England star has helped Spurs keep a huge 10 clean sheets in the 23 Premier League matches he has played. In the 13 Premier League games he has played under Conte, Dier and Spurs have conceded just nine.

But it was at the other end on Monday night, which left Dier annoyed. With the win already in the bag, Dier had the chance to score a header from a Harry Kane cross – only to flick an effort onto Jordan Pickford’s bar.

“People keep on bringing it up. No, I’ve got to score. It was disappointing. Harry’s cross was a bit too high. It’s something I really want to improve on, I want more goals. I’m very frustrated. It was very annoying not to score.”

Conte improving Dier: Tottenham man needs to add goals to game

Conte has said himself that Dier has the ability to become one of the best in the world, in his position – the middle of a back three. Indeed, his form will have certainly caught the attention of England manager Gareth Southgate.

The stats are impressive. Under Conte, Spurs have conceded nine goals in 13 Premier League matches. In the three league games he has not been able to play under Conte due to injury, Spurs have conceded six times.

He is brilliant on the ball, given he can play in midfield. He is strong, supreme in the air and positionally is getting better. But the one area he does need to improve is goals – given he is yet to score this season.
