The Tottenham Hotspur striker finally broke his scoring duck from open play yesterday.

Spurs star Eric Dier spoke to reporters in the wake of his side’s 6-0 win over Millwall in the quarter final of the FA Cup yesterday, and discussed teammate Vincent Janssen’s struggles since making the move to White Hart Lane last summer, as quoted by ESPN.
The Dutchman has experienced an extremely challenging time in north London since his move from AZ Alkmaar, and his goal yesterday was his first from open play for Tottenham this season.
He has received heavy criticism from fans and pundits alike, with many suggesting that he doesn’t have the physical intensity required to be a success in the English game.
But Dier backed the 22-year-old to come good after scoring his first goal for the Lilywhites from open play, and offered an explanation as to why he has found life so hard during his seven months in the Premier League, as quoted by ESPN:

“It is tough coming from a different country. I don’t think people realise how tough it is. Especially if you look at where Vincent has come from in such a quick period of time — from where he was and where he is now. I think he is just adapting to everything. Everyone was obviously delighted he scored the goal, I’m really happy for him and hopefully he can score more now.”
Much was expected of the Holland international when he made his £17 million move to Spurs, following on from his scintillating form the previous season in the Eredivisie, where he scored 27 goals in 34 outings for AZ Alkmaar.
And maybe now, after his goal against Millwall, and a renewed sense of confidence, he will start to emulate the kind of form he showcased in his homeland.
