The Tottenham Hotspur anchorman also provided encouraging words for those at White Hart Lane hoping to make the shortlist for the award in the future.

Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier has been speaking to the London Evening Standard about the recent Ballon d’Or nominations, with the 22-year-old of the belief that one name was missing from the list.
Though Spurs were one of only five Premier League teams represented in the running for the reward, the England international felt that the North Londoners should have had more – with Harry Kane the man unlucky to miss out.

White Hart Lane captain Hugo Lloris is the only Spurs star that was selected on the 30-man shortlist, and with the France international enjoying a solid European Championships between excellent Premier League campaigns, few would argue with that decision.
Lloris has again been in stunning form this season, making wonder stops in the club’s last two matches to ensure Spurs won points.
However, Dier pointed to Kane’s performances last season as reason for inclusion in the shortlist.
“Leicester won the Premier League but that doesn’t mean to say Harry should miss out. He had a fantastic season,” he is quoted as telling the Standard.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane wins the 2015/16 Barclays Golden Boot Award, scoring 25 goals.
“To be top scorer in the league after the slow start he had was a brilliant achievement. He could have been on that list, though I am sure he is not too bothered about it.”
The former Sporting player, who started in the 2-1 League Cup defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday night, also made it clear that Mauricio Pochettino has assembled a group of players who could produce a number of candidates for the prestigious sporting award.
“We have many players who can be on it in the future, though, if they want to,” he added. “It is a matter of working hard and trying to improve.”
Kane is close to recovering from an ankle injury that has ruled him out for the last few matches, and he will be looking to add to the two goals he has scored so far this season as he looks to defend his golden boot trophy.
