Eric Dier has claimed that the St James’ Park atmosphere is going to be ‘incredible’ on Sunday when Tottenham take on Newcastle, as he told Sky Sports.
The Tottenham defender feels that things have ‘changed’ in Newcastle after the takeover last week and his side have to be ‘ready’ for it.
Before the international break, Spurs, who beat Aston Villa, would have probably backed themselves to beat Steve Bruce’s winless side in their own back yard.
But with Mike Ashley now out of the door and a the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) taking charge, it has gone from doom and gloom to non-stop partying in the North East.
Understandably, fans are going to be pretty upbeat, vibrant and in the mood to party like they are unbeaten rather than winless on Sunday.
And Dier made it clear that he is well aware as to what is facing his side at the weekend.
“For us, it does change things,” said Dier. “It’s always a tough game there. A huge footballing city.
“But I think the atmosphere is going to be incredible, which is something we should try to enjoy and thrive off.
“Definitely the game has changed now with the situation they find themselves in. I am pretty sure the energy within that building has changed, so that’s something we are going to have to be ready for and match.”
Whilst everyone is riding a wave in Newcastle, it needs to be remembered that they are still in the relegation zone and yet to pick up a win.
Steve Bruce is still in the dugout, and once again, it has to be questioned for how long because it’s pretty obvious that he will be handed his P45 sooner rather than later.
Either way, whilst Spurs have been ahead of Newcastle for a number of years now, if the Magpies go down the road their supporters are dreaming of then things might just change during these coming years.
