Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier has admitted a comfortable win against Manchester City was his ‘lightbulb moment’ when he realised how good Spurs could be. But he was not talking about their most recent triumph v City.

Spurs beat Pep Guardiola’s men 2-0 before the international break in a systematic display that saw them put City to the sword.

But the Spurs star, who has recently reverted to his original position as a centre-half, has dated the moment he realised how much potential Spurs had back 13 months ago – when they defeated Manuel Pellegrini’s City 4-1. He told Sky Sports:

“The Man City game was a lightbulb moment for all of us in many different ways.

“Tottenham had been carrying an image and we are trying to change that.

“Obviously it takes time and you are going to have ups and downs along the way, but gradually we are changing that and the City game was the start of it.”

Dier of course scored an excellent goal in the game in what is perhaps the highlight of his Tottenham career so far.

Tottenham are once again looking like being in the title fight this season and will hope not to fade away as they did last term.

Today they take on an in-form Bournemouth side at the Vitality Stadium hoping to get back to winning ways after recent draws against West Brom and Bayer Leverkusen – whilst also hoping to maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign.
