The 22-year-old agreed a new five-year deal on Tuesday.
Eric Dier has told reporters, as quoted by the Daily Star, that he signed a new five-year contract at the club because it is “a fantastic time” for Tottenham Hotspur.
Dier put pen to paper on a new deal stretching until 2021, and the fact that this is the third long-term deal he has signed in two years at the club shows both his development and how highly-regarded he is at White Hart Lane.
The 22-year-old played 51 times in all competitions last season, also establishing himself as a regular England international, and played and scored for the Three Lions at Euro 2016 this summer.
The midfielder has started all four of Spurs’ Premier League games so far this season, playing ninety minutes in all but one of them, and is expected to start for the North London side in their Champions League opener against AS Monaco on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters ahead of that game and after signing his deal, Dier explained that he needed no convincing to commit his future to the club as they are in a “fantastic time” at present.
When asked why he signed a new deal, the Englishman replied, as quoted by the Daily Star: “The manager, who has been great for me since I’ve been here, the young players coming through.
“We are ambitious. The training ground, the new ground, it’s a fantastic time for the club. There’s a fantastic atmosphere in the dressing room. A determined attitude. Everyone wants to do their best to keep pushing Tottenham forward.”
Spurs fans will be delighted to see one of last season’s most important and most popular stars secured and happy at the club for the foreseeable future.
Dier has become an important cog in the wheel at White Hart Lane, and with the likes of him, Dele Alli, Victor Wanyama, Mousa Dembele and Christian Eriksen, the future of Spurs’ central midfield looks bright.
