Tottenham star Eric Dier has told the club website he hopes he can kick on after returning from injury.

Dier played an hour for Spurs against Manchester City in the 1-0 defeat on Saturday.

It was Dier’s first game since the 2-1 loss to Southampton in early March.

The match against the Saints was the only other Premier League start Dier has made in 2019 before this weekend.

The rest of his appearances have come in cup competitions or off the bench, with illness hampering his season.

Now he is back he wants to play a key role.

Dier said: “It’s been a very difficult period but at the same time a period where I’ve been able to learn a lot of things, re-assess a lot of things, learn about myself and that’s what I’ve tried to do. Touch wood, I can kick on now and help the team.

“As I said, I’ve been so lucky to always be fit and available and every player will have periods like this but for someone who prides himself on always being fit and available, it’s been difficult.

“Everyone has been fantastic, the boys have been incredible and it’s been nerve-wracking watching some of those games.”

Moussa Sissoko is back on the treatment table and won’t be available to face Brighton and Hove Albion this evening.

Dier has an opportunity to play at the club’s new stadium for the first time and he is likely to retain his place in the starting line up this evening.
