Newcastle United are planning to make a move for Manchester United central defender Eric Bailly in the January transfer window, according to The Northern Echo.

What’s the story?

The Northern Echo are reporting that Newcastle want to sign United defender Bailly and his teammate Jesse Lingard.

The Magpies are planning to make a bid for the 27-year-old Ivory Coast international central defender when the transfer window opens in January.

Could Eric Bailly to Newcastle transfer happen?

Bailly is struggling for playing time at United at the moment, and it is unlikely that his situation will improve.

The United no. 3 has yet to play in the Premier League this season and has made one appearance in the Carabao Cup.

The defender made 10 starts in the league and played five times in the Europa League last season.

It would make sense for the 27-year-old to swap Old Trafford for St. James’ Park.

Former United manager Jose Mourinho, now in charge of AS Roma, worked with Bailly at Old Trafford.

In July 2018, Mourinho told United’s official website about the defender: “He is a team boy, he is a great boy. He is an honest man, always ready to give everything for the team.”
