Gary Neville has said that Nick Pope has performed as well as Alisson Becker this season.

The Sky pundit took to Twitter to argue why he chose the £12 million (Daily Mail) man in his Premier League Team of the Season instead of the Liverpool goalkeeper.

As incredible as Alisson is and has been for years, Gary Neville clearly believes that Nick Pope has operated on the same level this campaign.

Gary Neville has his say on Nick Pope vs Alisson debate

Some would argue that the Brazilian No.1 is simply the best goalkeeper in the world and has a lot more strings to his bow than the Englishman.

On the other hand, many believe that a key reason why the Magpies have only conceded a goal lesser than Manchester City in the league so far is due to the presence of the ex-Burnley shotstopper.

When quizzed about his decision to opt for Nick Pope instead of Alisson in his side, Gary Neville made his case.

“I agree Allison is a better ‘keeper but you can’t deny Pope this season has great stats!”, Neville said.

Gary Neville would be right in picking either goalkeeper

With how brilliant Nick Pope and Alisson have been this season, Gary Neville would have been well-placed to pick either goalkeeper in his side.

The Liverpool legend is simply the most complete player in his position in the world.

Whether it be through his shotstopping, as a sweeper-keeper or in possession as well, Alisson ticks every single box like no other.

On the other hand, Pope’s influence on a Newcastle side that have overachieved by qualifying for the Champions League cannot be understated.

As a result, both these goalkeepers deserve a berth in the team picked by Neville.

The pair have been the best players in their position in the league, alongside perhaps Fulham’s Bernd Leno as the three standout candidates.
